5/13/2023 0 Comments Starsight goodreadsDue to the fact it would be impossible to discuss this book without getting into details from the previous one, I also highly recommend being caught up before reading this this review as it may contain potential, inadvertent spoilers for Skyward. Starsight is the sequel to the brilliant Skyward, and dare I say it, but it might even be better than its predecessor. There’s never an awkward social message shoehorned in or a romantic subplot not-so-unobtrusively shoved in your face, yet somehow his books always manage to be incredibly meaningful and filled with heartfelt connections anyway. And that’s why I’m such a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson, who has always ever only been interested in telling good, genuinely fun stories. These days, I find the problem with a lot of YA is how canned it all feels, the way writers try so hard to conform to some pre-existing narrative which just makes the end result seem so sanctimonious and fake. This does not affect the contents of my review and all opinions are my own. I received a review copy from the publisher. Audiobook Review: Starsight by Brandon Sanderson

5/13/2023 0 Comments April daniels nemesis book 3Dreadnought’s murderer - a cyborg named Utopia - still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. Between her father’s dangerous obsession with “curing” her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he’s entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she’s in over her head. It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny’s first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny’s body into what she’s always thought it should be. Until Dreadnought fell out of the sky and died right in front of her, Danny was trying to keep people from finding out she’s transgender. I’d been hearing a lot about it, and this seemed like it was going to be a fun adventure with something more personal lurking underneath.ĭanny Tozer has a problem: she just inherited the powers of Dreadnought, the world’s greatest superhero. I’ve been looking for some good transgender characters recently, and it’s been a really long time since I’ve read a good superhero story, so I was immediately interested in Dreadnoughtby April Daniels. 5/13/2023 0 Comments Hobbes 1651The son of a vicar who abandoned his family, Hobbes was raised by his uncle. 4, 1679, Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire), English philosopher and political theorist. The most straightforward retelling is “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” There isn’t a lot of deviation from the original fairy tale the reasons for the dancing, though, are that the family is cursed so the antagonist is on the outside. Two of them are retellings of classic tales, “ The Twelve Dancing Princesses” and “The Princess and the Frog”, and two of them are originals, “The Stolen Princess” and “The Hunting of the Hind.” It’s not a novel though there are 4 short stories in the book. It said that this book was aimed for 10-12 year olds, so I thought it would be a good idea to give it a try. It was part of the Big Library Read program where the company that handles ebooks for the library, Overdrive, decided to let everyone borrow this book and even provided points of discussion for book clubs. The Door in the Hedge came on my radar as I was trolling through the Toronto Public Library ebook website. 5/12/2023 0 Comments At somerton cinders & sapphiresLewis George Orwell Mary Pope Osborne LeUyen Pham Dav Pilkey Roger Priddy Rick Riordan J.

5/11/2023 0 Comments Kai fu lee 2041Story Three: my favorite story in the book explores the future of AI education, as smart AI teachers camouflaged as virtual cartoonlike friends help twin Korean orphans realize their potential. Story Two: the story explores a world where undetectable deepfakes drive dangerous consequences. Story One: the story illustrates how AI can single-mindedly try to optimize certain goals, but sometimes create detrimental externalities. The stories explore the following scenarios. I found myself engrossed in each narrative. Our authors tell ten stories, each compelling and easy to read. In a world of rapid change, uncertainty, and volatility, storytelling allows us to explore the future, in this case, the world of 2041. The storytelling was brilliant (my compliments Chen Qiufan), and Kai-Fu Lee provides analysis after each story, showcasing his grasp of AI and its possible applications. The authors use highly effective approach that combined fiction with expert analysis to help the reader imagine possible futures. The book titled AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future was authored by Kai-Fu Lee and Chen Qiufan. In a recent post on quantum computing, I referenced a new book (published in September 2021) that I recently added to my library. |
